GOODS LOST AT SEA

Payment Of War Risk Insurance Complaint about delay in payment by the British Government of war risk insurance on goods lost at sea made at a meeting of the council ol the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night. The secretary, Mr. E. M. Bardslej, said he knew of one firm which had goods in a ship which was sunk. A fresh consignment was ordered, but was also sunk. A third consignment was then ordered. This firm had had to meet bills twice and now a third draft was due for payment, but there was still no sign of the British Government paying out-the insurance on the two cargoes lost,-, for which the premiums had been paid. Mr. Barton Ginger said that similar delay occurred in the payment by the British Government of war risk insurance in every case he knew of. “W hen the claims will be met, heaven knows, he said. Mr. J. Carter said that in some cases the shipper collected the insurance aud replaced the goods. “There is no uniformity,” said Mr. W. H. Kindle. “Agents in Wellington of English insurance companies and banks and importers are bewildered.” Ou his motion, it was decided to suggest that the Associated Chaipbers of Commerce should confer with the banks and try to formulate a plan for uniform procedure.
