FIRE AT TOMOANA FREEZING WORKS

No Damage To Vital Part Of Plant Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS, February 4. A fire did about £2OO worth of damage to drying and locker-rooms ticcommodatiug men’s working clothing at Tomoana freezing works early this morning. No serious damage was done to the vital portion of the works. The alarm was given shortly before 2 o’clock, when heavy smoke was seen rising from the top of the four-storied building. The Tomoana Fire Brigade, under the direction of the chief engineer, Mr. D. McKay, attacked the outbreak, and, in view of the danger of the fire spreading to vital parts of the works, the Hustings Fire Brigade was summoned. When it arrived the local men had at least been successful in gaining control of the outbreak and preventhig it from spreading. The lire apparent! ■ started in a drying-room on the top floor of the main lniilding. This room is used for drying workers’ dollies by means of steam pipes. Portion of the building immediately above, where there were wooden lockers for (be working gear of about 90 men,, was extensively damaged.
