Maher Cup To Nelson (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WESTPORT, February 1. 'The Maher Cup athletic and cycling competitions were held on V ietoria Square, Westport, today, in gloriously fine weather, with a large aliendance of the public. Events won included: —880yds.: J. Baron (Nelson). 2.1 1-5, a Maher Cup record. Half-mile, mile and three mile cycle: Carter (Nelson). 100yds.: Senior, C. Samuels (Nelson) ; junior. F. Barron (Nelson). Shot put: H. Cloak (Greymouth), 36ft. Illin. 220y<15.: Junior, AV. Wilkes (Greymouth) ; senior, R. Butterfield (Westport). 440yds.: R. Butterfield. High jump: Blundell (Nelson), sft. uliii. Mile: .Medley (Nelson). Women's events resulted :— 7i>yds.: S. Barry (Nelson). 100yds.: S. _ Barry (Nelson). High jump: N. Kennedy (Greymouth). 4ft. -Ilin- Hop, skip and jump: D. Pilling (Greymouth). 410yds. relay : Westport. Final points in the Maher Cup athletic competition are: Nelson. 91; Greymouth, 46; Westport, 25. Nelson has secured the Maher Cup for most points in the competitions, Greymouth the Newman Cup for most points between Westport and Greymouth, and Westport the Daily Cup for the women's 440 yards relay. Westport, has won the Daily Cup at three successive Maher Cup meetings.
