“TAG” ON CITY ACCOUNTS
Expenditure On Motor Garages The Wellington City Corporation accounts for the year ended March 31, 1940, had been returned by the City Treasurer with an Audit Department “tag” that the expenditure of moneys by the council in the construction of motor garages in Bowen Street had been without authority by law, said the Mayor, Mr. Hislop, at last night’s meeting of the Wellington City Council. Mr. Hislop said that the city solicitor bad given an opinion in August, 1939, that under the Municipal Corporation Act there was authority for such expenditure where there would be no interference with traffic. “I have no doubt that we had the authority,” said Mr. Hislop. It was decided to receive the “tag.”
