TWO NEW ZEALANDERS DECORATED
Trooper And Lieutenant In Middle East LONDON, .January 31. Included in the awards published in Hie London Gazette for gallantry and distinguished services in the Middle East are a Military Gross for Lieutenant J. H. Sutherland and a Military Medal for Trooper L. A. Wilcox, both of the New Zealand Cavalry. Lieutenant Sutherland was born at Maungatua, Taieri, Otago, and is 37 years of age. He had 11 years’ training as a territorial in New Zealand, first in Otago and then with the Auckland East Coast Mounted Rilles, and be was still serving as a territorial when he embarked with the first echelon. He was employed as an inspector of stock by the Department of Agriculture before leaving New Zealand His wife died about two months after he left the Dominion. Trooper Wilcox is 22 years old, ami his parents reside at Kai Iwi. lie was employed as a sawmill baud at Paparangi, Kai Iwi, before leaving with the first echelon.
