WAR EXCHEQUER
Commons To Vote More Credit HIGHER RATE OF SPENDING (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 31. The House of Commons will shortly be asked to pass another vote of credit to meet war expenditure. The formal announcement of this gives no indication of the amount to be asked for but it is recalled that on each of the last two occasions the vote of credit was for an amount of £1,000,000,000. 1 In June last year war expenditure averaged £7,500,000 a day. By September tiie figure had increased to £9,000.000 a day. At that time the Chancellor of the Exchequer estimated that evenif there were no increase in the daily expenditure the £1,000,000,000 then voted would not last beyond the early days of March. Since then the rate of' expenditure has increased and is now stated in some newspapers to exceed £10.000.000 a day.
