Rival Accounts Given Of Big Battle (Received February 2, 8.40 p.m.) CHUNGKING, February 1. It is officially claimed that the Japanese offensive in South Honan has been a failure, and that Chinese troops are now closing in on the Japanese. On the other han'd, the Japanese command states that 100,000 Chungking troops have been annihilated and the offensive is progressing.
