CONTEST FOR DEWAR SHIELD
Athletics At Hataitai KIWI LEAD ON FIRST DAY The first Dewar Shield meeting of the season which was held by the Wellington Athletic Centre at Hataitai Park on Saturday afternoon resulted in the Kiwi Club scoring 7 points for the shield, AVellington (iA. Hutt 1, Olympic i and Varsity 0. Wellington hold the shield from Ihst season. The winners of the shield will be known after a second meeting, which will include events which were not on Saturday s programme. Each event is a teams contest, some of tlie track events being split into several races. The strong northerly breeze on Saturday assisted the runners in the sprints, but hindered entrants in 'the distance races as they ran down the back. Handicap exents were interspersed among the Dewar Shield events. Results are ns follows, K standing for Kiwi.
