N.Z. FOREST PRODUCTS Expansion Of Manufacturing Enterprises Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND. January 31. The statement that steps had been taken to develop further manufacturing enterprises, application having been in:ide tu ihe Government for a licence to produce sulphate pulp kraft paper and multiwall bags, was made by Ihe chairman, Mr. I>. Henry, at tin* annual meeting loday of New Zealand Forest Products, Umited. Mr. Henry pointed out that the statement of accounts showed that the develoje ment account which now stood at £102,744. had increased by £27.301 during rhe year. r The system under which land and income tax was assessed pressed heavily upon the company, and warranted special consideration by the taxation authorities. Since the annual report was circulated last October, there had naturally been further progress in Ihe establishment of plant and manufacltiring activities'. The sawmill on the afforest a Hon block was in-w operating ahead of schedule, and its output was much appreciated by Hie dairy industry. Work on factories in Auckland was proceeding apace, continued Mr. Henry, but it was now clear that these mills would not be in production for fibre board before next June owing to the difficulty of securing sufficient labour, as ■well as delays owing to war conditions in securing the balance of the plant from overseas.

The extension of ihe company's enterprise in the direction of manufacturing sulphate pulp kraft paper and multi-wall bags was regarded as vital to the future of the company. It was intended to explore the economics of these industries very thoroughly before embarking on any erpendilure f<»r plant and buildings, ami as Hie invvsligalion work would Hike some time and be fairly costly, un assurance was first necessary from the Government that a licence would be grained. Considerable exploratory work had, however, already been done, Mr. Henry said. Flans for the consolidation of the shares and the reorganize Hon of capital had been very well received by shareholders. Then* were u<»w no longer any dilterent classes of bonds, as all issues had been converted into shares F.very shareholder would receive both ordinary and preference shares for his holdings, so that ther** was now a welding together for the development and utilization of the company’s resources. Mr. C. M. Bowden, the retiring director. was re-elected, it being stated hy the chairman that the directorate had been reduced to six.

Subsequently at an extraordinary general meeting a new set of articles of association of the company were adopted. These contained several amemlmen's which hud been suggested by the chairman of I lie Slock Exchange*. 11 was explained by the i-hairman Hint it was hoped as a result Io have the company’s shares listed on Iho Stock Exchanges throughout Now Zealand and Australia.
