FISHING POPULAR
Good Sport At Rotorua The number of fishing licences issued for the Rotorua acclimatization district this season is almost unprecedented, according to the Conservator of Fish and Game, Mr. A. Kean. He said that it would be one of the best seasons the district ha'd had for the issue ot licences, and this was most encouraging in view of wartime conditions. Mr. Kean said it had been necessary to send out many additional books of licence forms. Even on Christmas Day he had received telephone inquiries from Auckland and Hamilton for fresh books. Many visiting anglers are tn the district. but, ns most are camping round the lakes, few detailed reports of the sport have been received, ’lhe weather had affected the fishing, lhe extremely hot days resulting in a late evening rise. This has been specially noticeable at the Ngongotaha and Awahou stiearns, where best results have been obtained after dark. A party of Rotorua district anglers took fish'of 71b., Sib., and 91b., respectively at Lake Rotoiti. Other good bags have also been taken at Lake Rerewhakaitu. where four rods took 23 fish on Christmas Day.
