Second Day At Auckland i KING’S PLATE WON BY: SIR BEAU Dominion Special Service. AUC-KLAND, 1 lecember 30. The second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting was held in fine weather. The track was last. he attendance was 15,500 against ILuOO last year The totalizator handled £ho,3ui | 10/- against £69,026. an increase ol £l4 349/10/-. For the meeting the figure X’ £226.379/10/- against £200,080. an increase of £20,299/10/-. Strenuous Tussle. A warm favourite. Brahman won the Fergusson Handicap alter a strenuous tussle with Black Majesty, who made a great effort to win all the way and was only shaded by half a head. Ladv' Acushla, always prominent, ran on to be a good third, ahead o Runanga. Karatoki. second choice to win. was handy approaching the tliru, but failed to run on, as did Lalula Hoj. High Star Again. High Star repeated his first day performance to win the Ponsonby Hurdles, returning a surprisingly good price in view of the fact that the distance was shorter and more to bis liking. Batchelor King headed High Star early and at. one stage had a commanding lead, but the latter ran to him at the last fence, to win nicely. Aussie Ha, finishing fast, could not reach Batchelor King, but. succeeded in cutting Melvanui out of third place. The each way fancy, Cherry Plum, was never dangerous. Fine Contest. The King’s Plate, despite the small l field, was productive of a fine contest, the favourite Sir Beau taking charge . from the leader Don’t Forget, who was quickly in the van, to set a lively pace. Koval'Chief, last early, moved up to Sir Beau at the turn and they followed Don t Forget to the distance, where Sir Beau took charge, to hold off Royal Chief by a head, with Don’t Forget a neck away third and Gayest Son heading the rest. Course Record Equalled. Well placed throughout and splendidly ridden by the apprentice, W. Uootou, Orelio won the Summer Cup m a nut finish with Lou Rosa and Cornish, who also ran as solidly at the cud. a 1 hot favourite, Belle Cane, was about the middle of the field most oi the way, to finish close up fourth, ahead ot Greek Queen and Sly Fox, the .last named coming home well utter being last toi the first six furlongs. The time 2.4 equalled the course record of Round Up put up in the same race in 1937. Won From End To End. Beginning smartly, Corn Prince won the Criterion Handicap from end to end, but he was hard pressed to hold oft a stout challenge from Edna s Birthday, who was only defeated by half a bead, with Minto, who ran wide at the turn, a neck away, followed by Par Avion. Premature, always in the running to the distance, tired in the run home, aim Borak, slow away, was never dangerous. Fine Performance. The three-year-old Cillas was responsible for a very fine performance in winning the Waitemata Handicap with 9.4, the second topweight, Acreman, running 11. Gray’s colt to a head, with the lightweight. Horeke, a. neck away third, and Mendelssohn, who was second choice to the winner, fourth. Gold Spot, who finished well, and Chain Acre, leader into the straight, were next to arrive. The winner displayed fine courage, and is in splendid racing order. Bronwen Decisively. Bronwen, carrying a stone more than when she won the Railway Handicap on the first day, scored decisively from the each-way favourite, Arvakur, with Marshall Hall close up third, and Pirate King, who finished with a great rally, almost in line. Marshall Hall, Saxon Tor and Corato were the leaders to the turn, where Bponwen and Arvakur became prominent, to go on and fight out the issues. Both Saxon Tor and Corato faded in the final push. Forest Acre Easy.

Coming through on the rails with an irresistible run, Forest Acre won the Plunket Handicap going away from Endorsement, Esquire and

Tea Gong. Olympus was quickly in the lead with Tea Gong, one of the last to leave the barrier, behind him at two furlongs. Olympus was well clear at the turn, but dropped quickly. Forest. Acre finished on full of running, to win by nearly three lengths'. Endorsement, each-way favourite, got up for second, a neck in front of Esquire.
