EXCESS PROFITS TAX
Increased Opposition . (Received December 29, 7 p.m.) LONDON, December 28. The campaign against the excess profits tax is gathering force. The chairmen <>f many companies at their annual meetings are complaining of inequitable incidence of the taxation. The “Dailv Telegraph” says that representations have been made to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Sir Kingsley Wood, that Hie tax tends to remove the incentive to efficiency and economy. The newspaper suggests that he wt.l modify the tax in his next Budget, possibly reducing the 100 per cent, duty to one of SO or 90 per cent.
