The General Trust Board of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland has received cabled advice from London of the award of the adjudicator. Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, in the competition for plans for the proposed Auckland Cathedral. The comiK'tition was held under the provisions of the will 01. the late Miss M. T. Horton, who bequeathed the residue of her estate, estimated at £65.090, toward the cost of the cathedral. It was open to members of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, resident in the Dominion or elsewhere, and it is understood that between 40 and 50 designs were submitted. The awards are as follows: — First, Mr. Charles Towle. Sydney, premium of £1000: second, Mr. Amyas .It. Connell. Long Sutton. Hampshire. £400; third. Messrs. Fergus G. I’. Slie|>pard and J. R. P. Blake-Kelly. Auckland, £200: fourth, Messrs. T. K. Donner and H. G. Bartlett. Auckland. Tlie winner. Mr. Towle, was formerly in practice in Auckland, bin left early last year for Sydney, where he is now engaged in designing aerodrome buildings for tlie Commonweali h Government. Tlie most notable example of his work in Auckland is tlie Christian Science Church, Symonds Street.
