CHILDREN'S PARTY

Foxton Women's Institute As Hostesses The annual Christmas party for the children, conducted by the Foxton Women’s Institute, was held in the Anglican schoolroom and grounds in ideal weather on Saturday afternoon. Because of the unavoidable absence of Mrs. .1. H. Middleton (president), and tlie delayed arrival of Mrs. L. J. Chittenden, Mrs. W. R. Byne presided, and the afternoon opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem. From then on, everything went witii a swing. Musical games were played and members of the committee all joined in the fun. Songs were contributed by Heather McKenzie and Celia Byne, the accompaniments being played by Mrs. E. Jackson. Recitations were given by Richard Mills ami Kyra Byne. A pianoforte solo was given by Dorothy Jackson. Afternoon tea was served first to the children and then to the adults, and all did full justice to tlie good things provided. More games were played and these were wbn as follows: Musical arms, Kyra Byne: musical broom, Miss Grace Huntley and Lois King: csji'k fishing, Merle Byne: bottle ringing, Celia Byne. Ice creams, balloons, squeakers and sweets were given to each child and Arthur Shailer was the winner of the prize for I lie lucky numbered hat. Tlie competition for the best paper hat was won by Mrs. Chappell. One of the features of the party was the grand march of the children in the paper hats made by institute members.

The party was voted a huge success by one and all. and tlie thanks of the committee are due to Mesdamos Jackson and M. A. Hose for providinjx the music.
