Mail Box Clearances. Commencing from today, December 30, the hours of clearance of Hastings letter boxes will be altered, and the boxes will in future be cleared at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day, exeepHng Saturday, when there will be only one clearance at 10 a.m. This alteration means that the early morning clearance will be discontinued, and only letters posted at the Post Office over night will be included in the morning dispatch of mails. The change is stated to be a war economy measure to alleviate the staff question. Another alteration in the postal services at Hastings, also commencing from Monday, is that priiate hafeS will be closed at 8 p.m. on the evening preceding dispatch.

Wanganui Spinning Circle. The Wanganui Women's War Service Auxiliarv has made arrangements for the formation of a spinning circle, ami _:t is hoped to commence activities early in the New Year. Early on Christmas morning, fire broke out in the joinery factory of the Marton Sasli and Door Company’s premises in Wellington Road. Mangatainoka Sports. Held on Boxing Day at Mangatainoka. the local Amateur and Athletic Society’s annual sports attracted good entries. Sixty-seven. business girls from 'Wellington are in camp at the Solway Showgrounds, Mastertori. The camp, which is an annual one, is under the auspices of the Wellington Y.W.C.A., and is directed by Miss Helen MacDonald (formerly of Canada), sports mistress of the Y.W.C.A. The eamp commenced oil Boxing Day, and will continue until January 4. Seventeen Of the girls* have left on a three days’ visit to Napier. Swimming, physical training, camp tires, etc., are being entered into with keen enthusiasm. Full use is being made of the Solway College swimming baths and tennis courts. Junior girls, also from Wellington, -will enter camp at Solway on January 6 for ten days.. A party of girls from the 'Wellington City Mission (Anglican), are camping at the Western Lake.
