FOREST FIRE
Second Outbreak Subdued Dominion Special Service. CHRISTCHURCH, December 20. A second outbreak of fire at the State Forest Service plantation at Eyrewell, which began about 10 a.m. on Saturday following a fire on the previous day, was under control by about 5 p.m. yesterday, after being fought by State Forest employees, 150 Air Force men from Wigram, and neighbouring farmers. Only a small area was involved in the second outbreak. There were no further outbreaks in the Selwyn Plantation Board’s area at Bankside, where 110 acres of young trees were destroyed on Friday. Men have been .working since the outbreak extinguishing smouldering remnants of the fire.
