HIGHWAY DEVELOPMENT IN THE TAUPO AREA: A section of the new Taumarunui-Tokaanu road (as yet uncompleted) as it emerges from the hills and bush high above Lake Taupo. The Taumarunui-Tokaanu road and the Waiouru Desert Road, which is now fully formed but not completely surfaced, will provide useful links in the highway system in the centre of the North Island.
