Thai Premier’s Statement On Border Dispute
NATURAL FRONTIER WANTED
LONDON, December 26. A communique issued in Bangkok by the Thai High Command reports more skirmishes on lhe border, of Thailand and French Indo-Cbiim. The communique says that on Christina* live the French opened fire will) artillery and machine-guns across I he border. ’The Thai guns repin'd vigorously and scored several direct hits which silenced the French guns. Thailand’s attitude toward France was defined yesterday by the 'I bai Prime Minister. Mr. Songgram. In a statement to Reuter’s correspoiideiit lie said Thailand was ready to shake bands with France tomorrow and torget the old feud about, it territory ot 300.000 square miles which has been •laduallv annexed by France and was new called French Indo-China. but. he said France must return the two small strips of territory on I lie Thai side of tlie Mekong River because they would give Thitilan'l a natural frontier.
