AUSTRALIAN PILOTS
First Trained Contingent From Canada (British Oflicial Wireless.) RUGBY, December 26. The first contingent of Australian airmen to complete their training in Canada under the Empire scheme arrived in London on Thursday. They are all pilots, and they have come from all parts of the Commonwealth, where they received preliminary and intermediate training before going to Canada to qualify for their wings.' Since the beginning of the year a squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force has been operating with the R.A.F. Coastal Command. Another R.A.A.F. squadron has been engaged against the Italians in the , Western Desert, and in combat has destroyed six Italian planes. The Australians trained under the Empire scheme, though they will be posted to the R.A.F. squadrons, _ will still retain their Australian identity.
