His Exeellency the Governor-Gen-eral presided at a meeting of the Executive Council yesterday morning.

Colonel 11. A. Hawkins was a passenger for the south by the steamer express from Wellington last night.

Mr. 11. H. Sterling, liaison officer to the Minister of National Service, returned to Wellington by the Limited express from Auckland yesterday.

Mr. L. R. Wilde, passenger agent for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Yokohama, is on a brief visit to New Zealand.

Mr. H. J. Bishop, of the Employers’ Federation, was a passenger for the south by the steamer express from Wellington last night.

Mr. E. E. Ackland, honorary agent for the New Zealand Government iu Vancouver, has arrived on a short visit to the Dominion.

Mr. M. G. B. Harvey, assistant architect to the Fiji Government, has arrived in New Zealand on furlough. Mr. Harvey formerly lived in Auckland. Mr. J. Fletcher, of the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., left Wellington for tho north by the Limited express last night. He was accompanied by Mr. A. Fletcher. Mr. H. H. Higgins, Wellington, man-aging-director of the Empire Printing and Box Manufacturing Company, Limited, travelled from Wellington to Christchurch by airliner yesterday.

Mr. F. G. Farrell, president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), and Mr. A. Grayson, a member of the council of the association, returned north by the Limited express from •Wellington last night.

| Mr. AV. L. Bell, engineer in charge l of railway construction between Gisborne and Waikokopu, has been appointed acting district Public Works engineer in Whangarei. He will be succeeded by Mr. L. C. Hardie, till lately in charge of construction on the Paeroa-Pokeno railway. Mr. Brian Shannon, only son of Mrs. Shannon and the late Mr. T. Shannon. Waitnna, Feilding, has joined the Air Force. Last Friday night the residents and Young Farmers’ Association at Waituna presented Io Mr. Brian Shannon a gold-mounted fountain pen and I pencil. About-200 people attended the J gathering in the Waituna Hall.
