DE LUNE THEATRE

A new and delightful screen family has been introduced to Welliugtou audiences this week by “Our Neighbours—the Carters,” now screening at the De Luxe Theatre. Fay Bainter and Frank Craven take the parts of Mr. and Mrs. Carter. Mr. Carter is a druggist in a small town, living happily with his wife and five children in comparative comfort, when big business strikes him, and his shop is sold to a Mr. Guilfoyle, a man of modern methods and ideas, who does not let sentiment interfere with hard cash. Ellen Carter has been saving for a long time to pay for the cure of her crippled son, but, faced with this new crisis, she gives her husband the money to start a new business. This does not thrive, however, as the go-getting methods of Guilfoyle's prove too much for bun, and he is forced to close down. Even the darkest cloud has a silver lining, nevertheless, and in this case it appears in the shapes of Bill Hastings and his wife. Gloria. They are a rich young couple who befriend the Carters, and in the long run arrange for proper financial backing so that the Carters can face the future witli more confidence than they have been experiencing for quite a long time. Edmund Lowe and Genevieve Tobin support the leading players, and the live children are all excellent. This is good, human-interest entertainment, with enough comedy and light sentiment added to the excellent, acting to constitute au extremely pleasant whole. The associate feature, “Opened by Mistake,” presents a complete contrast to the main feature, concerning, as it docs, the adventures of two newspaper reporters when they buy a trunk at an auction-room and find that the contents are of a sufficiently gruesome and startling nature to institute an immediate investigation. Charles Ruggles is at his best here as Buzz Nelson, the bibulous, gambling sports editor. Nelson becomes involved in a tight at the end, which is a splendid mixture of tomfoolery and hard action. Of its type, “Opened by Mistake” is a good exam i de.
