PACIFIC AIR SERVICE TO N.Z.
First Flight On May 15 LOS ANGELES ROUTE OPPOSED (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) CHICAGO, March 14. 'Flic president of Pan-American Airways, Mr. J. T. Trippe, has announced that the service to New Zealand wiJ begin on May 15. Arguing that so few passengers and so little mail was expected for the New Zealand air service that the Goveminent scarcely knew if it was worth a subsidy on the proposed basis of operation, without the extra cost st taking the route through Los Angeles, counsel for the Civil Aeronautics Authority at a public hearing in Washington opposed the request of Los An"eles city for the Pacific Clippers to call at that city. He declared there was grave doubt as to whether PanAmerican Airways had established proof that public convenience and necessity required the service, which proof was necessary for a subsidy. PLANE TO FOLLOW ROUTE USED IN NOVEMBER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 15. Pan-American Airways officials in Auckland have received no details of the first regular mail flight, but the Boeing Clipper will follow the same route as in November last.
