Adventure Bound at the Exhibition
JJERK is the first of our weekly corners for Exhibition news. Send along anecdotes of your visit —tell of the parts you liked best, of a queer or amusing happening, or about your whole visit. Star points will be awarded for the “bests” each week. Here are this week's winning paragraphs:— LpilE day we went f to the Exhibition was almost “Junior Dominion” day. First we arrived the same morning as Kuipe and the 600 Northlanders, so we saw the big party. Then, when we signed our names on the Centennial Roll at. the Exhibition, aud the lady in charge said : “Ah, ‘Dad’s Cobber’ and ‘Smiler’! How pleased I am to meet you.” It was a past Kiwi who recognized our real names. We' were very pleased to find an old friend at th-e Exhibition. But that was not all. Corning home in the train, we showed our certificates to a lady and her boys, and sjie said her name was the same, so we found some more friends—this time cousins from Pahiatua!— Dad’s Cobber (13), Carterton. In the Women’s Court. 1 n odd corners of the Women’s Court nt the Exhibitional found some interesting things. There was a knitled eoat, made by a Maori woman. She had taken the wool straight from the sheep’s back, and spun it herself. There were also some wonderful pieces of embroidery done in crossstitch, and framed. At a distance these seemed almost like painted pictures. I laughed at the “penny-farthing” bicycle parked between the two pioneer rooms. I could almost imagine the folk of the nineteenth century riding one of these queer vehicles with its very big front wheel and tiny back one. Think how queer they must have looked in (Continued at foot of column).
