TEN DAYS’ JAIL FOR MOTORIST

Intoxication Charge Admitted Ten days' jail with hard labour was the sentence imposed by Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court, Wellington, yesterday, when William Mcllroy, labourer, aged 47, admitted being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-ear on February 12. His driving licence was cancelled for 12 months. Sub-Inspector E. T. C. Turner, who prosecuted, said accused was driving a motor-car in Taranaki Street at 12.5 p.m., and when near the Buckie Street intersection, collided witli the rear of a parked vehicle, causing damage to the extent of about £3. When Constable M. J. Wallace came on the scene, he arrested accused for drunkenness’. Mcllroy was examined by a doctor at 12.25 p.m., and certified as being unfit to be in charge of a motor vehicle. Three squareriggers and a large bottle, all full of beer, were found in the car. Accused had not previously been before the Court.
