M. Tanner Replies To

Rumours

FINLAND’S RESOLVE The Finnish Foreign Minister, M. Tanner, has given the direct lie to stories that have been circulating for some time of attempts to mediate between Finland and Russia.

Fie suggested that the rumours had been made with the object of slowing down the provision of foreign aid, but this was now arriving. and the Finnish army, which had repelled the Russians for .10 weeks would be able to go on doing

Peace could not be dictated to Finland, said M. lanner.

The former Prime Minister' of Finland, Professor Cajander, who occupied that posoition till the war began, expressed Finland’s thanks for the help received from abroad. He described the war as a battle for western civilization as a whole against Russian barbarity, and revealed that the Finnish fund had received £200,000 in cash; much of it had come from the United States.

The Finnish committee of the Olympic Games, which were to have been held in Finland, has issued an appeal to athletes and sportsmen throughout the world. It declared that the people of Finland were using all their power to defend their right to their own native laud. A message from Helsinki emphasizes Finland’s need not only for war material, but for fighting men, as those in the front lines are unable to get adequate rest. The Finns are delighted to hear that Finnish volunteers are ready to sail from America.
