FIJI’S DEFENCE TAXES

SUVA, February 9. The Fijian Legislative Council passed Bills imposing additional taxation to meet defence expenditure. The income tax on individuals is increased from - 1/- to 1/3, -and the tax on companies from 1/- to 1/6. The residential tax is increased from 20/- a year to 25/-. The port and Customs service tax on imports is increased from 2 to 3 per cent. The increases are estimated to produce about £39,Q()Q.
