CENTENNIAL MILE RACE. —Despite extremely heavy rain the special invitation mile race at the Basin Reserve on Saturday resulted in a fine contest, and the winner, V. P. Boot, registered excellent time. These pictures show: (top) The five runners entering the straight on the first lap. Dickie (Wellington) is showing the way to Matthews (Canterbury), with Boot (Wellington) and Wade (Auckland) shoulder to shoulder next, and Pullar (Masterton) at the rear; (bottom) the finish. Boot is about 10 yards ahead of Wade.
