Store Sheep Values Decline

At Gisborne

EFFECT OF DRYING WINDS Dominion Special Service GISBORNE, February 10. Fat sheep values were unchanged at the Gisborne sale, ewes making 13/6 to 16/9 and medium lambs 16/6. The store sheep entry numbered 4000. Parching winds, seriously affecting pastures. resulted in a general decline in values. Lambs were easier by 1/6 a head. Good lambs made 12/- to 14/6, generally 8/9 upward. Fattening ewes met a poor demand, the best selling for 8/9. and with sound mouths 12/-. Down lambs, big and forward, made 13/3 to 14/6, and good sorts 10/6. Forward two and four-tooth wethers brought 17/3, and two-tooths 15/-. . The beef market, was hrm. Station cows sold to £B, Jerseys to £5, and station vealers to £3.

Porker Prices Advance At Palmerston Sale

Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., February 10. A small entry of pigs came forward at the weekly market in Palmerston North, and prices for porkers were- considerably in excess of the previous week’s realizations. A total clearance was made. Poultry was in the usual supply. .Quotations: — Pigs: Best weaners. 11/- to 16/-; small. 7/- to 10/-: heavy stores. 33/- to 37/6; porkers, £2/3/- to £2/15/-. Poultry: Best W.L. hens. 4/- to 5/a pair; best 8.0. hens, 6/- to 7/-; light hens. 3/- to 3/6: cockerels, heavy, 7/- to 9/- a pair; medium, 5/- to 6/-; small, 2/- to 4/-: pullets, forward, 6/- to 7/2 each; backward. 3/- to 5/-: ducks. 2/6 to 5/- a pair. Late Rates Realized At Carterton Sale Dominion Special Service. CARTERTON, February 10. A good yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs was offered to a large attendance of buyers at the stock sale in Carterton yesterday. Prices were on a par with late rates, realizations being:— Sheep: Fat wethers 21/6; fat lambs 23/6 to 27/-; fat ewes 14/- to 15/-; b.f. rape lambs 13/7 to 1.6/6, woolly wether lambs 12/5 to 15/8; wether lambs 9/-; medium b.f. lambs 10/9 to 11/3, small 7/6 to 7/7; small wether lambs 7/-; m.s. lambs 11/3; m.a. ewes 15/6 to 24/-; fan. ewes 5/4 to 6/4;. four and five-year ewes 16/6; cull ewes 1/7 to 2/9. Restricted Bidding At Ewe Fair In Martinborough Dominion Special Service. MARTINBOROUGH, February 10. Some good lines of ewes were offered to a large attendance at the ewe fair held in Martiuborough on Thursday by the Wairarapa Live Stock Auctioneering Association. There waa a full yarding, and though few outside buyers were present a total clearance was effected, but bidding was restricted and slow, specially on the older ewes. Some good quality two-tooth ewes were keenly, competed for. Burt Bros, again yarded a quality pen of two-tooth ewes, which realized 30/3. A similar line on account of Eslate A. 'Locker realized 30/3, and another pen from the same vendor of finer woollcd twotooths made 28/6. Other two-tooth ewes made from 22/6 to 26/-. A good sound line of four-year ewes on account of Mr. S. H. Oates topped the market in this sectiou under keen competition at 25/3. On account of the same vendor a line of five-year ewes made 22/3. Other sales are : — Account Mr. D. A. W.
