At the age of 26 Mr. Maurice Bernard Haves, who has been appointed town clerk of New Brighton. Christchurch, to succeed Mr. C. T. Middleton, is one of the youngest town clerks in the Dominion. Mr. Hayes was born iu Titnaru and educated at Geraldine High .School. His father, was for many years town clerk orUeraldine. On leaving school lie was employed as a junior for two and a half years by the Geraldine Borough Council, his next appointment being as assistant county clerk at Cheviot, where he remained for four years, till appointed assistant town clerk of New Brighton in 1936. He had been acting-town clerk of the borough for the past seven months.
