FUEL OIL FROM KAURI PEAT
Melbourne Experiments MELBOURNE. January 31. Success is claimed by a Melbourne analytical chemist,' Mr. 8. Rosse Trevor, in his experiments aimed at producing fuel oil from New Zealand kauri peat. Mr. Trevor claims that bis experiments have shown that 30 gallons of crude oil can be obtained from a ton of kauri peal, at a cost, of under twopence a gallon. He says that if the byproducts of distillation tire used the cost of production will be below the cost of crude oil from any of (he world’s bore wells. According to an analysis made by an assayer of the Victorian Mines Department, it sample of crude oil supplied from Mr. Trevor’s plant: contained 13 per cent, of light, oil. Mr. Trevor believes that the New Zealand Government, will interest itself in exploiting the process.
