FIRE IN CITY
Prompt Alarm Prevents Serious Damage
A fire that could have been serious had it not been detected in the early stages broke out on the ground lloo'r of a three-story concrete building oe cupied by the Dominion Fur Dressing and Dyeing Co., Ltd., Edward Street, Wellington, last night. The origin of the fire was at the rear of the building near a furnace, and spontaneous combustion is believed to have been the cause.
The alarm was given at 10.15 p.m. by Constable C. G. Carlson, and live machines from the Central Station turned out. Only one lead of hose, however, was necessary to quell the lire, Die damage being confined to the wall of the rear.
The building is just across a narrow roadwav from the building of J. C. Riddell anil Co.. Ltd., whicli was severely damaged by fire some weeks ago.
