WOMEN POLICE
Appointment Urged The conference of the New Zealand League of Nations Union in Lower Hutt yesterday passed a remit from the /Auckland branch urging the Government to take immediate steps to establish a force of women police as a necessary measure in combating social evils, especially in view of the accentuation of such evils in the disturbed social conditions associated with war. A note to the remit stated: —“The New Zealand Government has, on several occasions, approved of such a policy. In May, 1938, the Alinister in charge of the Police Department made a public statement to the effect that the Government intended to make appointments of women police in the near future. The League of Nations at Geneva has also on several occasions given strong approval to the establishment of women police as an important factor in international co-operation for the prevention of social evils.”
