.Sir, —The rather sanctimonious appeal of the Hon. Mr. Fraser for volunteers leaves one cold. Why can the Government not be honest and straightforward and admit that conscription is the only fair and certain method of obtaining troops? The reason is that they fear the reaction from a large and everincreasing number of “sporting” individuals who wish to sit at home and have their fighting done for them by men who are men.—l am, etc., ■GO'D SAVE THE KING.
