Sir Charles Marr and Mr. H. Landon Smith, Sydney, and Mr. S. J. McGibbon, Perth, have arrived on a holiday visit to New Zealand. They are at present in Auckland.

Mr. B. H. Mason, M.Se., who left New Zealand in November to take up a science scholarship in Norway, has arrived at Oslo, according to advice by cablegram. He will be with Professor V. M. Goldschmidt, of the Oslo Geological Museum.

Messrs. E. L. Casbolt, F.R.P.S., and F E. McGregor, members of the Christchurch Photographic' Society, have received advice that they have had prints accepted in the second international salon at Debrecen, Hungary. Mr. Casbolt’s work is represented also in the exhibition at Zagreb. Yugoslavia.

Mr. J. L. Hay, who has been elected president of the Christchurch Y.M.C.A., has been interested iu this work from his early years. During the Great War he was supervising secretary of (he Y.M.O.A. and served in France and Egypt. He was awarded the 0.8. E. and was invested by King George V, at Buckingham Palace. Mr. C. R. Russ has been appointed acting-secretary, succeeding Mr. F. E. S. Long, general secretary, who has enlisted.

Mr. P. F. Notley, Auckland city valuer and returning officer, is to retire after 36 years’ service with the council. He was born in England 6-1 years ago, and after serving in the South African War with the Royal Engineers, came to New Zealand. He arrived at Wellington in 1901 and joined the Auckland city traffic staff in 1903. He served in the Great War aud after being wounded was taken prisoner. He returned to New Zealand in 1919.
