Smaller Yarding At Feilding Sale STORE SHEEP IN DEMAND Dominion Special Service FEILDING, January 5. Not a very large yarding came forward at Feilding today for tile opening sale of .1940, but the stuck offered was generally fair to good quality, and a keen sale resulted.

The fat sheep entry was of light proportions, with wethers in main supply. Brices were well up to those of pre-Christmas sales, particularly for wethers. Extra prime wethers made 22/- to 23/-, prime wethers 20/- to 21/6, lighter 17/- to 19/6; light hoggets, 18/-; spring lambs. 19/6; extra prime ewes 16/1 to 17/1, second quality 14/- to 16/-, light 8/1 to 13/3.

Store sheep: There was an excellent demand for forward conditioned lambs, wether sorts being the principal supply. An outstanding line of Kumaroa-bred sheep made 18/1, with tops of other lines up to 17/-; small ewe lambs, 14/-; extra good wether lambs 17/8 to 18/1, good 15/to 16/2, average sorts 13/1 to 14/9, backward 10/3 to 12/6, cull 3/- to 7/8; twotooth wethers 14/10 to 16/9, Dairy cattle: Quite fair’ inquiry was shown for cows in milk, but backward springers were not wanted. Good cows in milk made from £B/2/6 to £B/10/-, springing cows £4; springing heifers £3 12/6 to £4/15/-. Store cattle: Boner cows commanded good prices in this department, but for other lines the sale mainly was slow; only a few head of station cattle were available. Forward two-three-year A.A. steers realized £7/19/-, small yearling steers £3; boner cows, heavy £3/15/- to £4/4/-, others £2/6/- to £3/12/6. Fat cattle: Beef made a good sale, prime quality sorts being well up to prices ruling before the holidays. No weighty stock was offered, but finished good prime A.A. cows made £8 to £B/10/-, second grade £6/10/- to £6/17/6; ex-(lairy cows, heavy £5/15/- to £6/10/-, others £3/17/6 to £5/10/-; prime A.A. heifers £B/10/-, second quality £7/2/6 to £7/13/6; exdairy heifers £5/10/- to £6/12/6; vealers, heavy £4, light £2/7/6; runners, heavy .£6/10/-.

Pigs—There was a good sale, with high prices. Wenners sold from 9/6 to 12/6; slips from 21/- to 25/-; stores 35/- to 36/-; bnconers £3/2/-. Poultry: Hens 1/7 to 2/8; cockerels 1/3 to 3/3; pullets 4/3; ducks 1/3 to 1/7; hen and nine chicks 10/-.

Good Demand For All Pigs At Palmerston North PALMERSTON >N., January 5. An exceptionally good demand was evident for all classes of pigs, prices being improved on late-December rates, at. the sale conducted in Palmerston North yesterday by the Dominion Auctioneering Co. Ltd. Porkers were particularly sought, realizing from £2/14/6 to £3/4/-. The poultry entry was large. Prices are:— Pigs: Heavy porkers 54/6 to 64/-, medium 48/- to 51/-, light 39/- to 45/-, heavy stores 30/- to 39/-, light 26/- to 30/-; weaners 17/6 to 20/-; slips to 27/-. Poultry: Heavy 8.0. hens, 7/- to 7/6 a pair; W.L. hens, 4/- to 6/-; young ducks, 8/- to 10/- a pair; old ducks, 5/to 6/6 a pair; cockerels, heavy 7/- to 9/a pair, medium 5/- to 6/6 a pair, light 4/- to 5/-; light hens, 3/- to 5/- a pair; pullets, 4/9 to 5/11 each.

Keen Competition For Lambs At Dannevirke Sale DANNEVIRKE, January 5. A large attendance of local and outside buyers was present at the sale conducted in Dannevirke this week. A good yarding of store lambs was offered, and a few pens of fat sheep. Competition for the lambs was keen throughout, and the sale resulted in the vendors being well satisfied. Details of the sale from Williams and Kettle Ltd. are:— Account Mr. E. C. Ellison: 110 b.f. lambs 15/3; 142 Romney lambs 14/1; 50 ewe lambs 14/1. Account Estate M. Franklin: 99 wether lambs 17/10. Competition was not animated, but every pen was sold except a small one of 40 two-tooth ewes, which passed at 27/-. The top price for woolly b.f. lambs on account of Lyall Lambert was 16/4, and the same vendor realized 15/8 for a pen of 84 good w.f.w. lambs.
