FAREWELL TO CLARION CLUB MEMBER

The Clarion Club, Lower Hutt, tendered a farewell recently to one of its members, Mr. Stanley Griffin, a member of the first echelon. Dancing was interspersed with games and community singing, whiph included “Tipperary,” “Pack Up Your Torubles” ahi other choruses popular during the last war. Miss Isobel Pattison gave several elocutionary items. A pocket wallet was presented to Mr. Griffen with the good wishes of his friends.

A delicious homemade supper was served by the committee, and the evening concluded with the singing of “For lie’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne.” Mrs. N. Boyd, who played extras, also played for the community sing. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. F. Howe, Mr. and Mrs. L. Buchanan, Mr. and Mrs. H. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. N. Boyd; Mr. and Mrs. Bull, Mr. and Mrs S. Friis, Mr. and Mrs. W. Corlett. Mr and Mrs. B. Elsmore, Mr. A. J. Webster, Mr. L. Turner, Misses Huskisson, Gar Stone, Clare and Joan Williams, Pauline Williams and J. Upton: Messrs. Tom Williams, Rod Williams and Warren Friis.

Otaki Women’s Institute. At the last meeting of -the Otaki Women’s Institute, members were notified that on the second Friday of each month the patriotic committee undertook to supply cakes for the soldiers in camp, and any contributions were to be left during the morning at any of the depots, Mr. Rule, Otaki Railway, the borough council office, or Mr. O’Brien’s' store, Tasman Beach. A garden party for institute members and friends will be held at Mrs. Harold Taylor’s home in the last week in January. Miss Manz gave a very interesting demonstration in the making of glass trinket boxes and articles in pewter. The competitions were for a presentation box of flowers and a sponge roll. At the February meeting nominations for the 1940 committee will be received.
