SEAMEN CHARGED WITH THEFT OF STOUT
«> Three members of Hie crew of the coastal motor-ship Hohnglen appealed m the Magistrates’ Court, AVcllington, yesterday, charged with the theft five gallotis of stout, valued at £l/5/-, the propertv of the Holm Shipping Co., Ltd. They were David .Murray, seaman, aged 31. John Sinclair, steward, aged 33, and Paul Eraser, seaman, aged 20. They were also charged with attempting to steal a hogshead of stout worth £9/13/-, belonging io the Holm Shipping Co. They pleaded not guilty. Both offences were alleged Io have taken place hi AVellington on December 2-1. For tlie policci Sub-Inspector E. T. C. Turner said that the three men had been arrested al 5.30 a.m. yesterday. The crew had been paid oil', as the Holmglen was going to tlie Patent Slip. He asked Hint defendants should be remanded in custody till next week. The remand was granted, but bail was allowed in the sum of £25 each, with Iwo sureties of £25.
