LILY-OF-THE-VALLEY

When To Plant

Owing to the growth which the roots of lily-of-the-valley make very early in the spring, to disturb them at that time would check their development and impair the production of blossoms. In the autumn the roots are dormant and can be moved with little danger of losing a season’s bloom. The root system of these plants extends ’just below the surface of the soil, but when preparing a new place for them the ground should be dug deep enough to provide a moistureholding medium; peat moss, incorporated into the subsoil, will aid greatly both as to moisture and for acidity which these lilies thrive on. A shady spot where the soil can be kept uniformly moist at all times is ideal.
