C. M. BANKS, LIMITED Difficult Trading Conditions The directors of C. M. Banks, Limited, in their 3Sth report covering the twelve months ended October 31, state that sales were practically the same as for the preceding year. A. reduction in the factory sales was made up by an increase in the stationery department sales which showed a marked improvement, on the previous year. The results from the factory were not so good as anticipated, partly on account of alterations which wasted time, ibut the improvements made should give more economical production.

The import restrictions adversely affected the profit, absorbed a great amount of time of the staff and caused considerable difficulty and anxiety. In view of the uncertain trend of business ami that extra cash may be required for the higher costs of stocks, the directors deem it advisable to conserve the funds. They recommend that a dividend of 2i per cent., free of social security tax be paid on the preference shares. This will irequire £362/10/-, leaving £323/15/- to be carried forward.
