Meetings Of Societies RYELAND FLOCKS Bv Telegraph—Press Association INVERCARGILL, December 13. At the annual meeting of the Ryeland Sheep Society of New Zealand last evening the opinion was expressed, that A. and P. associations should be requested to appoint junior judges in this section at their annual fixtures. The president, in bis annual report, slated that the breed had made satisfactory progress throughout the Dominion and the number of flocks registered was 08. compared with 00 the prveious year. Fifteen new breeders had joined. He wished them success. A matter of congratulation was the number of Ryeland sheep imported from England, bringing new blood to the Dominion. The society's finances were sound, the surplus exceeding £75. The following office-bearers were elected :—President. Mr. 11. Withell (Canterbury) ; vice-president, Mr. L. R. Averill <Hawke’s Bay) ; council, Messrs. E.Averill. R. Budd (Hawke’s Bay), H. C. Hewlett (Auckland), J. W. Ridd (Palmerston North), J. Brooks (Canterburyl. 8. T. Evans (Southland), W, O. Rennie, J. S. Brooks (Canterbury). It was decided to increase export fees for stud rams from 2/6 to 5/-, and to reduce the fees for stud and flock ewes from 2/6 to 1/-. Milking Shorthorns. The half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association was attended by North Island breeders ns well as a good representation of South Island members. The president. Mr. Allan (Hawke's Bay i congratulated ■ exhibitors ou the splendid animals at the Royal Show, and said the exhibition was a credit to the breed. The judge of the breed. Mr. W J. Slack (Bunnythorpe). gave a general review of stock at the show. He said he did not expect to see such high quality stock in Southland. A remit from the Canterbury braueb recommending that the council adopt the principle of quarterly meetings of an executive coqimiltee was adopted. The committee will consist of the president for the year aiitl four delegates, three froii the North Island and one from the .South Island. After the meeting, the local branch entertained visiting members.
