Anglican Social Service The biennial street day for the social service work of the Wellington diocese of the Church of England will be held in Wellington today. The diocese has five homes for babies, girls and boys, the City Mission doing extensive spiritual and social work, and the Missions to .Seamen caring for the spiritual and material welfare of seafarers. Two of the five homes are in Wellington, one at Lower Hutt and one each at Masterton and Palmerston North. In these, the average number cared for is 225 and 1700 have passed through them since their foundation. The Wellington City Mission maintains a men’s shelter, a youth hostel and Christmas camps, and provides dinners for pensioners as well as doing other work. The Missions to Seamen entertain 16,000 seamen annually, and the yearly budget is £6OOO.
