REFUGEE DOCTORS
University Council Discussion By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 13. The admission of foreign refugees to the Medical School was discussed at length by the University Council under a resolution to rescind tr previous motion refusing admission to Fletschl. It was eventually decided to admit her because she had come to New Zealand on a definite understanding from the High Commissioner’s office that she could continue her studies here. Mrs Eletschl wrote that she had been induced to settle here though she had already secured a place in "America, where she could complete the medical course in 18 months a.s against three vear.s here.” The resolution admitting her set out that it was because of the special circumstances mentioned, and Hie feeling of the council was finally expressed in a refusal to grant two men the same privilege, though one had been admitted ad cundem by the New Zealand University. Dr. Fitzgerald then gave notice to move that no more refugees be admitted for the duration of the war. Finally it was decided to acquaint the High Commissioner, through (lie Prime Minister, with Hie position regarding the admission of student doctors.
