A large entry of' 305 fat cattle was forward at Burnside today, but the bulk of the offering consisted of . medium sorts, with a larger proportion than usual of cows and heifers. Prime heavy oxen were in short supply, but despite this values were down ti.v 20/- to 2a/- a head. Extra prime heavy -bullocks ijjad-e 2/6' prime, £l7 to £lB/10/-; medium, £l4/10/- to £l6/10/-; extra -prime rows and heifers, to £l3/12/6; prime £lO/10/to £l2/7/6; medium, £8 to £10; light, from £6/12/6.' The entry of stores was the largest for a month, and included several consignments of well-bred steers. Heifer prices receded by la/- to -0/- a head on the high rates of last week. Up to £ll/7/6 was obtained for a line ot exceptionally good three and shorthorn-cross steers. Young dai y cows close to profit were unchanged, though other sorts in this section were ha Tlm offering of fat sheep totalled 1350, with several pens of prime ewes, but tew prime wethers. Prices at the start were firm, and there was a further firming ot 1/- to 1/6 a head later. Extra Prune heavv wethers made to 35/-; prime, yO/to 32/9; medium, 26/- to 28/-; light, from 21/6; extra prime heavy ewes to 31/-: prime hwivy, to, 2 ‘/3; prime, -4/to 25/6; medium, 19/- to 21/-; light, from 12/-. Four hundred and forty-two fat lambs were forward, butchers competing freely for the heavyweights. Export lambs brought full schedule rates. Baconers were easier in the fat pig section, but -porkers were fully up to late rates. Stores hdd a bright sale, an advance of 3/- a head being recorded.
