4 Twenty-First Prize-giving Ceremony A large gathering of parents and friends attended the prize-giving ceremony ol Queen Maigaut College last night in the leehmeal Gmlege Hall. , ... . Hie intermediate division presented songs of J! inland, Poland, and New Zealand, and the senior girls concluded with T rencli, Swedish, Scots, and Hungarian songs, that, included the national Christmas hymn, of Sweden, “Hosianna. Doctor, who stressed the importance of school influence in showing a way of life and a pattern of living, to young people. There was only one way, she said, in which a well and full patterned life could be attained —- from the development of inner consciousness and character. She illustrated her re* marks by referring to the ideals of community interests displayed at the New York World’s Fair. Mrs. Doctor urged those ■who were leaving.that they should remember always the way of life which they hud been taught to follow while at school. The enjoyment of simple things in a world given to seeking for more elaborate pleasures, was urged by Miss Irene Wilson, principal of Queen Margaret College. -She hoped the holidays would be a time of family sharing for children and parents. In the midst of all the fun which accompanied these times she would like to know that parents gave their children some daily task which would develop responsibility in them. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, chairman of the board of governors, welcomed parents and friends and representatives of kindred bodies. After the presentation of prizes and the presentatoin of badges to leaving prefects, the school hymn, “As With Gladness,” was sung. The prayer ami Benediction was pronounced by tbg college chaplain, the Rev. A. B. Kilroy. Prizes were presented by Mrs. J. A. Doctor as follows: —Dux of school, Ann Eichelbaum; consistent work, Alison Gapes, Mary Hopkirk, Joy Wearne, Christine Lindsay, Rangi Hogg; special effort, Max Eichelbaum, Merle Green; honours, Ruth Olsen; special improvement, Edna Miles; general helpfulness. Nane.v Twhigg, Ngaire Newall, Mary Wall, Pamela Anson,; continuous service, Margaret Martin;? school service (Old Girls’ Association prizes), Betty Picot, Prudence Potinger. Memorial prizes: ClarkeJohnson Memorial prizes for Scripture, junior, Suzanne Hott; senior, Janet Ferguson; MeLay Memorial prize for homecraft. Katie Mantell-Harding, Pattie Dixon.
