HITLER’S PLANS

Revelations By Former Colleague OPPORTUNISM OF NAZI FOREIGN POLICY * (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 11. Great interest has been aroused by the publication today of. the book, “Hitler Speaks,” by Dr. Hermann Rauschning, former Nazi President of the Danzig Senate, whose previous work, “Germany’s Revolution of Destruction,” made a considerable impression here. The new book is widely reviewed and is the subject of a leading article in the “Manchester Guardian.” The book is based on notes of intimate conversations with Herr Hitler between 1932 and 1934, and the opportunism of Nazi foreign policy is startlingly demonstrated. A “Times” review says that by making clear the implications of “Mein Kampf” and exposing the monstrosity of Hitlerism, Dr. Rauschning has performed a service to every European. The “Manchester Guardian” says: “In this book we can see into the back of the mind of the remarkable and dangerous man Hitler and understand still better the forces behind his energy and ambition.”

“Hitler Speaks” deals with the period before the Nazis captured pow'er, and during the first two years of their rule. It shows that Herr Hitler was discussing the partition of Poland in 1934, and considering an alliance with Russia. Referring to Russia, he said that one had to go with them all the way or leave them strictly alone. The danger to Germany was that she might be absorbed and lose her identity as a nation. The book also refers to how Hitler hoped to achieve his aims without war, and states that the Germans could not limit themselves to national aims. They must rule Europe or fall as a nation.

In the centre of Europe Herr Hitler would place Germany, and there would be unions, including a western union and a northern union, which would include Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. There would be no such things as neutrals; they would be drawn into the sphere and influence of the greater Powers. Hitler said frankly that he would invade Sweden. He also said that an enemy must be demoralized and driven into moral passivity. Peace would be negotiated before war was begun.—By radio. WARSAW’S BUILDINGS Seventy-five Per Cent. Destroyed

“Seventy-five per cent, of Warsaw’s buildings have been destroyed and the walls are being pulled down. Those fit for habitation add to the ghost-like appearance of the city because of patch-work repairs,” states a correspondent of the “New York Times” in describing conditions in the ruined capital of Poland. Pavements which had been smashed by the bombardment were being torn up, and, except in one suburb, there were no trams, and because of the shortage of petrol there were no buses. Food queues were long, but the high prices had made purchases almost prohibitive. The curfew operated from 7 p.m., and none except German soldiers were allowed iu the dark streets. —By radio.

SEIZURE OF GERMAN EXPORTS Japanese Test Case Likely A Japanese liner of 8000 tons was scheduled to leave Rotterdam yesterday with a cargo of German exports. The ship was due to leave on Sunday, but the captain states that the Japanese shipping authorities told him to stay till Tuesday till the Allied seizure of German exports came into force. It therefore appears that they are making it a test ease.

The week’s grace to neutral shipping with German exports on board expired on Jlonday.—By radio.
