Sir James Elliott, Wellington, flew to Blenheim yesterday and returned later also by air. Mr. G. T. Thurston, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, is visiting Wellington. Mr. S. J. Castle left Wellington for the south last night by tbe steamer express.
Mr. J, J. McAloon arrived at Wellington yesterday from the SouthIsland by the steamer express. Mr. P. M. Velvin, president of the Federated Shop Assistants’ Union, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Christchurch.
Mr. W. G. Macartney has been elected chairman of directors of the Tai Tapu Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd.
Professor J. Hight, rector of Canterbury University College, arrived at Wellington from Christchurch yesterday.
Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, travelled, from Wellington to Westport yesterday by air.
Mr. W. II- Stevens, president of Die Wellington Manufacturers’ Association, returned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island. Air. N. R. Smallbone, director of W. and R. Smallbone Ltd., returned io Wellington from the South Island yesterday.
-Mr. W. R. Carey, manager of the Kaiapoi 'Woollen Manufacturing Coy., Ltd., left Wellington on his return io Christchurch last night by the steamer express.
Mr. G. R. Ashbridge, secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute, left Wellington for Auckland last night by the Limited express. Mr. Leo du Chateau. Wellington, lias been engaged as advance representative for .1. C. Williamson’s New Loudon Dramatic Company, which is to open a New Zealand tour in Wellington on December 23 in the play, “I Killed the Count.”
Mr. V. Jones, secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A., has been appointed Y.M.C.A. representative to accompany the first New Zealand echelon overseas. An appointment will be made by the Y.M.C.A. board next week to till the vacancy during Mr. Jones’s absence from .New Zealand. Mr. Jones came to Wellington two years ago from Australia to take up Die duties of secretary in succession to Mr. L. Greenberg.
