ANTI-WAR MOTION

West Coast Trades And Labour Council Discussion on the resolution which was carried last week by the West Coast Trades and Labour Council, describing the war as “another Imperialist struggle.” is expected to be revived at the next meeting of the council in Greymouth next Friday. The delegates of two unions on the council —the Westland Dredge Workers’. Union and the State Miners’ Union —which have dissociated themselves from the resolution passed, have been withdrawn as a protest against the decision at the last meeting, and the rescission of the resolution objected to is laid down by them as a condition which must be observed before they attend further meetings. The president of the council, Mr. J. Doyle, who for some years has been prominent in .the Westland Timber Workers’ Union, has, since the resolution about the war was discussed, faced an election in his union for the position of vice-president. In a close fight 1222 votes were cast in the Grey, Otira and Buller districts, and Mr. Doyle won, defeating Mr. S. Gladstone by 616 votes to 606.
