NON-UNION WORKER
Man Fined For Employing Brother UNUSUAL PROSECUTION Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS, December 12. Au unusual ease was heard by Mr. Stillwell, S.M.. in Hie Magistrates’ Court, Hastings, today when \\ . ,1. Berryman, as inspector of awards, claimed £lO from L. Burge, trading ns the Dominion Terrazzo Company, for the employment of a nonunion worker. Mr. Berryman said Burge had employed his brother in the works and despite three visits by an inspector and four letters from the department he did not force his brother to join the union tiil the department took proceedings. Mr. W. E. Bale, who appeared for Burge, said the business was purchased for Burge’s brother and a partnership was pending. For this reason the whole matter had been delayeel. Burges brother was a member of another union, and perhaps he felt that one union at a time was enough, added Mr. Bate. The magistrate said the ease was not serious and entered judgment for plaintiff for £2.
