NO FLOODING

Trentham Mobilization Camp

At the height of the storm on Monday the Central District. Mobilization Camp, Trentham, was one of the few areas in the upper part of the Hutt Valley completely free of surface water. There are between 400 and 500 tents in the new camp and not one of them was flooded. Before the tents were pitched the whole area was excavated by (lie Public AA’orks Department and filled with broken rock to its original level. In addition an extensive system of drainage and seepage pits to collect rain water was provided. This system was thoroughly tried and it proved its effectiveness under abnormal conditions. The tar-sealed roads throughout the camp all remained free of water and training operations were continued without, interruption, though, of course, the '"wet weather syllabus” was in operation. This involves indoor lectures and section rifle drill.
