MORAL MOBILIZATION

Oxford Group’s Plans

For Future

CABLES FROM OVERSEAS The final meeting of the Oxford Group assembly at the Royal Oak Hotel, Wellington, was exceptionally well attended and overflowed into an adjoining room. Cables from overseas and telegrams from different parts of New Zealand were read at an introduction to the meeting. A cable from Australia read: “Greetings from Australia. World situation requires that we hasten moral mobilization. Spiritual expeditionary forces are needed in battle for permanent peace. May assembly show new steps in God’s plan for New Zealand and Pacific.” Another cable, from London, read: “Moral rearmament is more than ever the nations’ greatest need. Pioneering a new world order by obedience to God of all nations is our highest patriotism. Greetings and best wishes for a successful assembly.” The South African “team” cabled: “Best wishes Dominion assembly. New Zealand’s" answer to world’s need.” There was interesting variety among the speakers, including a Maori, a Chinese, a carpenter, a business man, housewives and farmers. A Maori woman made a stirring appeal for greater unity between Maori and pakeha, and instanced how moral and spiritual rearmament was creating a new spirit in home, pa and tribe. The main theme of the meeting was the need for hate-free, fear-free, panicproof men and women with the faith and courage to work constantly under God’s direction to lay the foundations for national and world reconstruction in the midst of the passions and partisanships of war. A programme was outlined by which the spirit and principles of M.R.A. would be carried into every avenue of the nation’s life.
